TASHKENT, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan will allocate around one billion U.S. dollars to promote family-based businesses in a bid to reduce poverty and create new jobs, the Uzbek president's press service said Thursday.
The plan was unveiled during a meeting chaired by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, said the press service.
The Central Asian nation, with a population of 36 million, has already implemented a number of measures to combat poverty.
In 2022, the country's poverty rate stood at 14 percent of its population -- around 5.04 million people, dropping from 17 percent in the previous year, it said.
Mirziyoyev also instructed the country's Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment to review and approve the employment program for 2023, and organize practical work on poverty reduction in all regions, it added. Enditem
