LIMA -- At least 36 people were killed in Peru after a mudslide buried several communities in the province of Camana, in the southern region of Arequipa, authorities confirmed Monday.

"We have just communicated with the municipal agent of the Miski sector, where they reported the 36 deaths. They found the bodies and they are stranded there on the highway," the technical secretary of the National Civil Defense Institute, Wilson Gutierrez, told Radio Programs of Peru. (Peru-Mudslide)

ANKARA -- Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has raised the death toll from Monday's powerful earthquakes to 2,316, as the rescue teams are racing against time to save people trapped under the rubble in cold and rainy weather.

The AFAD also noted that at least 13,293 people were injured and 5,606 buildings destroyed after devastating earthquakes, adding that a total of 14,720 people are currently providing assistance in the disaster zone, including military personnel. (Türkiye-Earthquakes)

OUAGADOUGOU -- At least 25 people were killed on Saturday in a terrorist attack in northern Burkina Faso's Sahel Region, said a regional government official Monday evening.

In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Rodolphe Sorgho, who is the governor of the Sahel Region, said that armed terrorist groups perpetrated a violent attack Saturday afternoon in the commune of Bani of the province of Seno, killing 25 people, including 22 civilians and three police officers. LUSAKA -- A cholera outbreak has been reported in a second district in Zambia, a health official said on Monday.

TOKYO -- Nine workers fainted on Monday due to a lack of oxygen at a construction site of a biomass power plant in Japan's Shizuoka Prefecture, local media reported.
