ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The African Union Commission (AUC) on Tuesday announced the launch of an election observation mission to observe Nigeria's general elections slated for Feb. 25.

In a press statement, the AUC said the 90-member election observation mission headed by former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta will observe Nigeria's upcoming elections and plans to engage with various stakeholders in observing the polling process.

The mission also plans to issue its preliminary statement on the electoral process two days after the general elections are held, it said.

The general elections will elect a new president and members of the national assembly.

According to a timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Nigeria's electoral body, governorship and state legislature elections will be held on March 11. Enditem
