TEHRAN, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei reaffirmed on Wednesday that his country will continue to build up its defense capabilities as Iran faces many threats.
According to the leader's website, he made the remarks in an address to a meeting with people from the northwestern Iranian province of East Azerbaijan.
He also argued that criticism against Iran for strengthening its military power is unfounded because the country faces many "enemies" and is entitled to defend itself and its people.
The Iranian top leader pledged that his country will do "its utmost" in the future to improve its military.
Khamenei further charged that Iran's "enemies" purposefully ignored the country's progress in other areas while exaggerating the Iranian military's threats, including those posed by drones.
The United States and its Western allies have frequently voiced concerns about Iran's missile program and some other military activities, which Tehran says are meant for defense. Enditem
