ISLAMABAD, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Two dacoits were killed in a clash with police in Pakistan's capital Islamabad in the wee hours of Thursday morning, the police said in a statement.

The police were having a routine check at a picket in sector D-12 of the Pakistani capital when the dacoits opened fire at them, but the cops remained safe due to the security measures, the statement added.

The dacoits were riding a motorbike when they fired at the police. They were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to injuries, said the statement.

The dacoits were later identified as street criminals involved in various crimes, and one of them was also accused of killing a man during a robbery, the statement added.

The police said that both attackers were also involved in the rape of a woman in a park in the city earlier this month. Enditem
