MEXICO CITY, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Cruz Azul ended an eight-game winless run in all competitions to register a 3-1 victory over Puebla in Mexico's Liga MX on Friday.
Carlos Rodriguez put the visitors ahead with a long-range effort on the stroke of halftime, and Julio Dominguez doubled the advantage with a downward header following a Rodriguez corner.
Gonzalo Carneiro made it 3-0 by converting a penalty just after the hour after a Patrick Villa hand ball.
Brazilian defender Lucas Maia pulled a goal back 13 minutes from time by latching onto Federico Mancuello's cross and sending an unstoppable header past Antony Silva.
Cruz Azul, who had not won since a 1-0 victory over Leon on October 8 last year, are now 16th in the Liga MX standings with four points from their first six matches. Puebla are 15th, three points ahead of their rivals.
In Friday's only other Liga MX encounter, Juarez were held to a goalless home draw by Leon. Enditem
