Israel's Elitzur Ramla beat Italy's Reyer Venezia in women's EuroCup basketball

JERUSALEM, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Israeli champions Elitzur Ramla achieved an 80-75 home win over the Italian side Reyer Venezia in the first leg of the FIBA Women's EuroCup quarterfinals on Thursday evening.

The game, played at the Kiryat Menachem hall in the city of Ramla, was close at beginning, ending 15-15 in the first quarter, before Sara Madera inspired Venezia to take a 39-31 lead at halftime.

Shakira Austin and Alysha Clark gave Ramla the lead, 47-45, in the 25th minute, but Matilde Villa helped the visitors turn the game around again, finishing the third quarter 58-53.

The fourth quarter was tight and the last two minutes witnessed key points by Alyssa Baron and Austin seal the win for Ramla.

Austin finished with an impressive 29 points and 16 rebounds, Baron added 19 points and Elina Babkina handed out 14 assists.

Jessica Shepard scored a team-high 16 points for the Italian side.

The second leg will be played on March 2 in Venice, and the winner on aggregate will face AE Sedis of Spain or Galatasaray of Turkey in the semifinals. Enditem
