KABUL, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities inaugurated a bridge in the eastern Khost province on Sunday, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported on Monday.

Constructed at 40 million afghani (449,200.00 U.S. dollars) in six months, the 60-meter bridge connects the Ismael Khil and Mandozai districts to the provincial capital Khost city, and had been financed by local administration, the state-controlled media outlet added.

Welcoming the step as vital for reviving the local economy, the people of Khost province have called for the establishment to build bridges, roads, health centers and schools, the report said.

As part of efforts to rebuild war-torn Afghanistan, the Afghan caretaker government, besides launching some development projects, has also called upon national and international companies to invest and create job opportunities for poverty-stricken Afghans. Enditem
