BAGHDAD -- A total of 22 Islamic State militants, including some of the group's leaders, were killed in an operation in Iraq's western province of Anbar, the Iraqi military said on Sunday.

Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab al-Saadi, head of the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service, said at a press conference that the operation was carried out in two phases by an airborne force on a rugged area north of the town of Rutba, some 400 km west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. (Iraq-IS-Crackdown)

TEHRAN -- At least seven people were killed and five others were injured as three residential buildings collapsed entirely on Sunday due to an explosion in the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz, semi-official Fars news agency reported.

The explosion, which occurred at 03:00 a.m. local time (2330 GMT) in a two-story building, completely leveled the building and two neighboring ones, said Mohammad-Baqer Honarbar, director general of East Azarbaijan province's Crisis Management Organization. (Iran-Buildings-Explosion)

BENI, DR Congo -- At least 19 people were killed in an overnight attack in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), local sources said on Sunday.

The attack, which took place in the village of Kirindera in the territory of Beni of the eastern province of North Kivu, killed at least 19 civilians, Carly Nzanzu Kasivita, former governor of North Kivu, told journalists on Sunday morning, attributing the attack to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. NOUAKCHOTT -- Three escaped terrorists have been killed and another arrested, Mauritania's defense and interior ministries said in a statement on Saturday.
