JERUSALEM, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Israel's handball team achieved a 29-27 home win over Estonia in Group 3 of the men's 2024 European Championship qualifiers on Sunday.
This is Israel's first win in four matches in the four-team group, while Estonia now have one win and three losses.
The first half ended with a 15-13 lead for Israel. Goals by Kaspar Lees and Mait Patrail helped Estonia to keep within striking distance throughout the second half, but Daniel Mosindi and Nadav Cohen inspired Israel to secure the home win in the final minutes.
Mosindi and Cohen scored six goals each for Israel. Patrail scored a team-high six goals for Estonia and Henri Sillaste added five.
Iceland and the Czech Republic, who each have three wins and one loss, currently lead the group, from which two teams will qualify for the final tournament to be held in Germany in January 2024.
Estonia will next play against the Czech Republic, while Israel will host Iceland on April 27. Enditem
