JERUSALEM, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said on Wednesday that they killed a "militant" who infiltrated into the country from Lebanon and was allegedly responsible for a roadside bomb attack earlier this week that severely wounded one Israeli citizen.

The suspect laid an explosive device near Megiddo Junction, a crossroad in northern Israel, Israeli military said in a statement, adding that the bomb exploded and severely injured a 21-year-old Arab citizen of Israel on Monday.

The suspect tried to return to Lebanon but was intercepted later on Monday by a manhunt mission that was conducted by the Israeli military, the Shin Bet, and the police, the statement noted. The Israeli forces killed the man as he possessed "weapons and an explosive belt ready to be activated," it said.

The military said the unusual attack is under "extensive review," and they look also into "the possibility of the involvement of the Hezbollah."

Hezbollah, a Lebanese Shia militia that controls much of southern Lebanon, has been fighting against Israel for decades. Enditem
