KABUL, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have killed three insurgents after they stormed a hideout of militants affiliated with Daesh or the rival Islamic State (IS) group in Kabul, a government official said Wednesday.

The Afghan security forces launched operations against the hideout of Daesh in Batkhak area of Police District 12 in the capital city of Kabul on Tuesday night and killed the three IS militants, Chief Spokesman for the Taliban-run caretaker administration Zabihullah Mujahid said on his Twitter account.

The government forces have also seized arms and ammunition including hand grenades, explosives devices, remote controls, objects and materials used in manufacturing mines and explosive devices during the operations, the official asserted.

Mujahid added that the armed Daesh affiliated militants were planning to launch subversive activities during the month of Ramadan, the Muslim holy fasting month that begins on Thursday, but the security forces foiled their vicious designs.

Daesh or the IS outfit, which has claimed responsibility for some deadly bombings in Afghanistan over the past one year, has yet to make any comment.

The Afghan caretaker government, which downplays the rival Daesh group as a serious threat, has vowed to crack down on armed opponents elsewhere in the country. Enditem
