BRATISLAVA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The Slovak national football team managed to redeem itself in its second match of the Euro 2024 qualifiers by defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) 2-0 on Sunday.

The Slovak fans were disheartened by the national team's performance in a goalless tie against Luxembourg in the group opener.

After four ties and one loss, Slovakia's coach Francesco Calzona finally celebrated his first victory since joining the team last year.

The 54-year-old Italian started Robert Mak, who repaid Calzona's trust by scoring just 13 minutes into the match. The Sydney FC striker was given too much space by the visitors, took the ball down the center of the pitch, and placed his long-range shot well toward the right post.

Sparta Prague midfielder Lukas Haraslin stretched the lead to 2-0 at the end of the first half with another well-placed effort after the ball bounced to him on the edge of the box.

Portugal currently tops Group J with two wins, while Slovakia is second with four points. Enditem
