YAOUNDE, March 31 (Xinhua) -- At least five children and a driver were killed, and 15 others injured early Friday after a bus transporting passengers including students collided with a truck in Cameroon's Southwest region, according to local authorities.

The prefect of Fako division, Chaibou, said that the accident occurred at Milowe locality of the region.

"Three students, two children and the driver were killed in the accident. Doctors are working to save those who were injured," Chaibou told reporters in the town of Limbe where some of the injured and corpses were transported.

"My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and speedy recovery wishes to the injured. I also call on road users to be more prudent in order to avoid such fatal occurrences," the country's prime minister said in a tweet.

According to the police, fatal accidents are common in Cameroon due to reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, and poor state of road.

The Ministry of Transport estimates that 1,500 people die in road accidents each year in the central African nation. Enditem.
