BUENOS AIRES, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Paraguayan striker Gabriel Avalos scored a hat-trick as Argentinos Juniors romped to a 5-1 home win over Union Santa Fe in Argentina's Primera Division on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old put the hosts ahead with a low strike and he doubled the advantage with a header after Lucas Villalba's cross.

Kevin Mac Allister made it 3-0 on the stroke of halftime by running onto Franco Moyano's through ball firing a right-footed effort into the top-left corner.

Avalos completed his hat-trick shortly after the restart as he finished coolly following a Fabricio Dominguez pass on the counterattack.

The rout continued as Francisco Gonzalez latched onto Facundo Ferreyra's pass and drilled a shot past goalkeeper Sebastian Moyano.

Tomas Gonzalez pulled a goal back by heading home from close range after Enzo Roldan's corner.

The result leaves Argentinos Juniors seventh with 17 points from 11 games, seven points behind leaders River Plate. Union are last in the 28-team standings with seven points.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Tuesday, Barracas Central secured a 1-0 home win over Platense, Instituto won 1-0 at home to Velez Sarsfield, Lanus drew 1-1 at Central Cordoba and Defensa y Justicia prevailed 3-0 at Banfield. Enditem
