BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's retail sales recorded a year-on-year growth of 2.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022, the latest statistics released on Sunday by the Ministry of Finance and Economy showed.

The increase that brought retail sales to 440.9 million Brunei dollars (331.5 million U.S. dollars ) was mainly driven by the rise in the sales of books, newspapers and stationery in specialized stores by 46.2 percent, followed by the sales growth of textiles, apparel and footwear by 39.8 percent.

Sales at petrol stations also went up by 33.7 percent, supermarkets by 3.6 percent and department stores by 3.5 percent.

The ministry said the increases were due to the rise in domestic demand in line with the reduction in control measures following the cessation of the COVID-19 restrictions. Enditem
