COPENHAGEN, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Denmark will increase the use of biofuels in cars and trucks to help the country achieve its climate target for 2025, Lars Aagaard, minister for climate, energy and utilities, said Wednesday.

"We are putting a biofuel proposal on the table that will ensure that we achieve our climate ambitions for 2025," he told a press conference at Marienborg, the prime minister's official residence.

"We are increasing the green content in the diesel and petrol we pour into cars," he said.

Aagaard's announcement came after his meeting with key stakeholders to discuss measures to put Denmark back on track for its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 to 54 percent in 2025 compared to 1990.

Additional proposals under discussion include capping the consumption of first-generation biofuels, or fuel derived from biomass, and encouraging fuel suppliers to use greener fuels.

The government also plans to promote heavier and longer trucks to improve freight transport efficiency and reduce emissions. Enditem
