YANGON -- Sixteen people were killed and 55 others injured in 34 road accidents throughout Myanmar during the celebrations of the country's traditional New Year from April 13 to 16, traffic police said on Friday.

The main causes of the road accidents during the period were drunk driving and reckless driving, Soe Myint Oo, a police officer from the country's traffic police force, told Xinhua. (Sri Lanka-Inflation-Drop)

JAKARTA -- A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck off North Sulawesi province in central Indonesia on Friday, but did not trigger a tsunami, the country's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's headline inflation dropped to 49.2 percent in March from 53.6 percent in February this year, said the Department of Census and Statistics here on Friday.

ISLAMABAD -- The Foreign Minister of Pakistan Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will attend the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to be held in the Indian city of Goa next month, Pakistan's foreign office spokesperson said here on Thursday.
