RIO DE JANEIRO, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Dorival Junior has promised to restore Sao Paulo's past glory as he prepares to take charge of the club for a second time.

The 60-year-old faced the media on Friday for the first time since he replaced Rogerio Ceni as head coach earlier in the week.

"This is a giant club that has found itself in a position that it doesn't deserve," Dorival said.

"But that could change in a matter of months. Everything will depend on work, dedication and self-belief."

Dorival also led Sao Paulo in 2017 and 2018, when he helped the club avoid relegation after also replacing Ceni. He asked fans for time to be able to implement the changes the team requires.

"I'm fully aware of the task that awaits me. For me, it's a continuation of the work that I did in 2017 and 2018," he said.

"I always mention that it took Jurgen Klopp four years [as a manager] to win an important title. In Brazil, you're lucky to get four months to start getting results. We just need to be a little more patient."

Dorival's first match in charge will be a home clash against America Mineiro in Brazil's Serie A championship on Saturday. Enditem
