RAMALLAH, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian Foreign Ministry on Monday announced that more than 200 Palestinians in Sudan are evacuated from the capital of Khartoum.

The ministry said in a statement that "the first convoy took approximately 72 Palestinian nationals including families and students to Port Sudan."

Other convoys carrying about 200 Palestinians moved towards the border with Egypt, it added.

The evacuation came hours after the Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki asked during a phone call with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Sunday for assistance.

Al-Maliki said the Saudi minister expressed all willingness and readiness for help and gave clear instructions to assist the Palestinians to evacuate quickly and smoothly through Port Sudan to Jeddah.

"The move came as a result of intensive efforts made by the ministry with support from the Palestinian missions in Khartoum, Riyadh, Cairo, Amman, and other institutions," the statement said.

On Saturday, several countries began evacuating their nationals from Sudan as seeing no hope of an end to the conflicts in Sudan.

The deadly clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have killed more than 424 people, with about 3,730 wounded by Saturday, according to the country's health ministry. Enditem
