TOKYO, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The prices of tickets for the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka could be raised by more than 30 percent due to increasing inflation and security-related labor costs, local media said on Thursday.

The spike in prices could see ticket costs go from 6,000 yen (44 U.S. dollars) to 8,000 yen (60 dollars), with the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition reported to be mulling the price hikes to meet increased costs of managing the event, including soaring security costs.

Following the Japanese government's approval, a final decision on the price of tickets will be confirmed in mid-June and are set to go on sale on Nov. 30, prior to the exposition kicking off in the western prefecture of Osaka on April 13, 2025.

Sources close to the matter said that tickets bought in advance of the event may be discounted, with concessions possibly being offered to groups of students on school trips, as well as summer holiday tickets that would allow for visitors to reenter the venue multiple times.

The expo will run from April 13 to Oct. 13, 2025, at Osaka's Yumeshima artificial island, under the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."

As of the end of March, the government here said it expects a minimum of 153 countries and regions plan to take part in the event, with the association saying around 28.2 million people are expected to visit, of whom 3.5 million are from overseas. Enditem
