DAR ES SALAAM, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Saturday directed two ministries to work out a procedure aimed at introducing the teaching of the philosophy of the country's founding leader Julius Nyerere.

Majaliwa directed the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to team up with the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports to introduce the teaching of Nyerere's philosophy in schools.

He made the directive when he represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan in the commemoration of the 101st birthday anniversary of Nyerere who died on Oct. 14, 1999.

"Julius Nyerere's philosophy should be taught from primary school to university level to enable the youth to understand what the founding father stood for," said Majaliwa in Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania. "There are a lot of things that Nyerere did and stood for but most of our youth are not aware of them."

Majaliwa said among Nyerere's accolades were the fight against ignorance, poverty and diseases and his participation in the liberation struggle of southern African countries.

Nyerere was president of Tanzania from 1964 until his retirement in 1985. Enditem
