RIO DE JANEIRO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Veteran striker Gilberto Souza scored two second-half goals as Cruzeiro cruised to a 4-0 away victory over America Mineiro in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
Henrique Dourado opened the scoring with a close-range header and Marlon Xavier doubled the advantage by nodding home after William Furtado's cross.
Gilberto, a 63rd-minute substitute for Dourado, netted twice in the last seven minutes to put the result beyond doubt.
First, the 33-year-old center-forward powered a header into the bottom-left corner after Igor Formiga's cross and then he combined with Filipe Machado before firing an angled finish past the outstretched hands of Matheus Cavichioli.
The result means Cruzeiro are now fourth with 12 points from six games while America are last in the 20-team standings with just one point so far.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Sunday, Gremio were held to a goalless home draw by Fortaleza, Santos won 1-0 at Vasco da Gama, Sao Paulo drew 1-1 at Corinthians, Athletico Paranaense won 3-2 at home to Coritiba and Goias clinched a 2-1 home victory over leaders Botafogo. Enditem
