LUANDA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- An out-of-control car smashed into a crowd early Sunday in Luanda, the capital of Angola, resulting in six deaths and six injuries, local media and officials said on Monday.

The driver of the speeding car lost control of the vehicle, which overturned, hit a lighting post and then rammed into 12 pedestrians standing nearby in the Camama area of Luanda's Talatona municipality, said National Police spokesperson Nestor Goubel.

Five victims died on the scene, while seven injured individuals were taken to Luanda General Hospital for treatment. One of the injured died later in hospital, local media said.

Authorities are trying to locate the driver of the Toyota Hiliux, who fled the scene after the crash, police said in a statement. Enditem
