Myanmar towns record lowest temperature in decades

YANGON, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Two towns in Myanmar experienced the lowest temperature in 28 years and 36 years respectively on Tuesday, according to the country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

Namhsan, a town in eastern Shan state, logged its lowest temperature in 28 years at 12.5 degrees Celsius, the weather bureau said.

Kyauktaw, a town in western Rakhine state, also on Tuesday recorded a temperature of 17.1 degrees Celsius, the lowest in 36 years, it said.

Two towns in the central Magway Region experienced the heaviest single-day rainfalls in decades on Sunday, when the extremely severe cyclonic storm Mocha made landfall near Sittwe in Rakhine state and raged in the country, killing at least five people. Enditem
