RIYADH -- The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) on Tuesday opened a new branch in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

This was announced at a business meeting held in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on promoting the use of Chinese currency RMB. More than 150 people attended the event, including Chen Siqing, chairman of ICBC, Yin Lijun, charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Saudi Arabia, and Wang Qimin, consul general of the Chinse Consulate-General in Jeddah. TRIPOLI -- The eastern-based Libyan House of Representatives (parliament) on Tuesday suspended Prime Minister-designate Fathi Bashagha after more than a year of his appointment.

"The House of Representatives voted by majority to suspend Prime Minister Fathi Bashagha, refer him for investigation, and assign Finance Minister Osama Hammad to run the duties of prime minister, in addition to his duties as finance minister," said Abdullah Blehig, the parliament spokesman. TEHRAN -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday night that Iran's recent seizure of two foreign vessels in regional waters is "aimed at countering behaviors and actions in violation of international maritime law."

In a statement responding to U.S. accusations that Iran has been carrying out increased attacks on commercial shipping, Nasser Kanaani said Iran plays the "most effective" role in ensuring maritime security in regional and international waters and has always been a "guarantor" of the "harmless and safe" passage of ships and vessels across the Strait of Hormuz. KHARTOUM -- The death toll in the armed clashes between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has climbed to 822, the Sudanese Doctors Union said Tuesday.

"The number of civilian deaths since the beginning of the clashes has climbed to 822 with 3,215 injuries," the nongovernmental organization said in a statement. (Sudan-Clashes-Death Toll) Enditem
