TUNIS, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Justice Minister Leila Jaffel on Tuesday stressed the need to develop a comprehensive international strategy to combat all forms of terrorism and money laundering, reported the Tunis Afrique Presse.

In a speech at a regional symposium on the topic of Combating Terrorism and Arms Smuggling in the city of Hammamet in eastern Tunisia, the minister said, "terrorist threats directly affect the security of the targeted countries, and undermine the foundations of their economic and social balance."

Addressing this "requires a broad international consensus to combat these threats, by developing a comprehensive and effective strategy and a wide-ranging plan in order to confront and prevent the phenomenon of violent extremism and all forms of terrorism, within the framework of the law and the international, regional and bilateral agreements that have been ratified," she said.

Jaffel called for "drying up the sources and methods of illegal arms transfer in confronting terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, as an enabler of armed violence and a source of financing for terrorist groups, especially with the emergence of cross-border criminal networks to facilitate the transfer and trafficking of arms."
