NAGOYA, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Ana Cristina de Souza scored a match-high 23 points to earn Brazil a straight-set victory over the Netherlands at the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League here on Thursday.

The South Americans, who wasted a fifth set lead in their 3-2 defeat to China less than 24 hours ago, beat the Netherlands 25-23, 25-23, 25-21.

The 19-year-old Ana Cristina spiked at a 59% success rate and added two kill blocks and an ace. Elles Dambrink was the Netherlands' top scorer with 12 points.

Brazil, who finished second last year, will next take on the Dominican Republic, while the Netherlands meet the Caribbean side on Friday.

In the day's other Pool 2 match, the Dominican Republic fought back from a set down twice to beat Bulgaria 3-2 (22-25, 25-16, 16-25, 25-14, 15-11).

Dominica's Brayelin Martinez led the field with 25 points and Gaila Gonzalez added another 19 points. Elena Becheva was Bulgaria's best scorer with 17 points. Enditem
