RIO DE JANEIRO, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Two goals from Rony Barbosa guided Palmeiras to a 3-1 home win over Coritiba in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.

Artur Guimaraes gave the hosts the lead by tapping home from close range after Joaquin Piquerez's pass.

Brazil international forward Rony doubled the advantage when he latched onto Mayke's cross and headed into the bottom right corner.

Rony made it 3-0 with a cool finish after combining with Dudu on the counterattack before Alef Manga reduced the deficit by blasting home from the edge of the six-yard box.

The result leaves Palmeiras second in the 20-team standings with 19 points, two fewer than leaders Botafogo. Coritiba remain last with just three points so far.

In Porto Alegre, Gremio secured their third straight win by coming from behind to beat Sao Paulo 2-1. The visitors took the lead through Jonathan Calleri's 15th-minute strike before Franco Cristaldo and Reinaldo Silva hit the target for Gremio.

The result leaves Gremio fourth with 17 points, two points ahead of seventh-placed Sao Paulo.

Elsewhere in Brazil's Serie A, Cuiaba won 1-0 at Goias and Fluminense prevailed 2-1 at home to Bragantino. Enditem
