MAPUTO, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Mozambique's national airline, LAM, will start a new air route on June 30 connecting the country's national capital of Maputo to Lusaka, Zambia, with a stopover in Harare, Zimbabwe, the company announced Monday.

The new route is part of LAM's strategy to include more capital cities of southern African countries in the airline's destinations, according to a statement on LAM's official webpage.

The company now operates flights between Maputo and Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as between Maputo and Harare, in addition to flights between Pemba, the provincial capital of northern Cabo Delgado, and Dar-Es-Salaam, the commercial hub of Tanzania.

"We are excited to facilitate travel and contribute to the growth of southern Africa's connectivity, and we believe that the new route will bring mutual benefits to Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe while providing another option for passengers in our region," the statement said.

The flights will take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with 50-seat Embraer aircraft, it added. Enditem
