KOH KONG, Cambodia, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A demonstration project for integrated management of typical small river basins, funded by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund, has been inaugurated here.

Under the project, an overflow dam over the Kayang river, along with a fruit tree irrigation system, was constructed, and a reverse osmosis pure water treatment system was installed at the Kokichrum Primary School in Russei Chrum commune of Thma Bang district in the southwestern province.

The project was undertaken by the Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute of Changjiang Water Resources Commission of China's Ministry of Water Resources, and constructed by Cambodian Tatay Hydropower Limited.

Speaking at the project's inauguration ceremony on Sunday, Koh Kong's provincial governor Mithona Phuthong expressed her gratitude to China for funding the project through the LMC Special Fund, saying that it was essential for local residents.

"This project has made a significant contribution to improving the livelihoods of the people in a sustainable way," she said. "I believe that after the inauguration of these achievements, the economic situation in Thma Bang district will improve and local people will have better livelihoods."

Xu Ping, chief engineer of the Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute, said the project was one of the projects carried out in Cambodia under the LMC Special Fund for 2022.

"This project will enhance drinking water safety, ensure water supply in the dry season and promote green development in Russei Chrum commune," he said. "From now on, teachers and students at the Kokichrum Primary School have access to safe drinking water, while farmers enjoy water supply for their crops in the dry season." Enditem
