ISTANBUL, June 19 (Xinhua) -- The animal market in Türkiye's northwestern Edirne province has become attractive to buyers purchasing sacrifices ahead of the Muslim festival Eid al-Adha, according to local media reports.

Aydin Balkan, director of the Havsa district in Edirne, said the market had seen growing orders from Istanbul, the country's largest city, and surrounding cities.

Türkiye's Thrace region, comprising provinces such as Kirklareli, Tekirdag and Edirne, has been the main venue for the trade of sacrificial animals for years. This year, Edirne stood out from other provinces for the high-quality services and meats provided by its bazaars.

Balkan said the taste of Kivircik sheep, an indigenous sheep breed, is world-famous, noting the sheep are naturally bred in pastures.

He added that the market opens every Saturday, unlike other bazaars that only serve on limited days, thus gains itself more popularity.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, will start on June 28 this year. The Eid al-Adha holiday has been extended to nine days this year instead of the traditional four days in Türkiye. Enditem
