LUANDA, June 28 (Xinhua) -- A summit gathering the four main mediators for the restoration of peace in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reiterated a call for immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all armed groups, "in particular the M23."

According to a statement on the Quadripartite Summit among the East African Community, the Economic Community of Central African States, the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), and the Southern African Development Community, the parties expressed concern about the "insecurity and humanitarian situation" in the DRC due to the "criminal activities of armed and terrorist groups."

The summit, convened on Tuesday in Luanda, the capital of Angola, called for the creation of humanitarian corridors.

The parties, noting a lack of "predictable, adequate, and sustainable funding," tasked the African Union (AU) Commission, in coordination with the Quadripartite members, with mobilizing resources for the efficient implementation of the "Comprehensive Joint Master Plan" on the DRC.

Angola's President and current chair of the ICGLR, Joao Lourenco, again urged the DRC and Rwanda to normalize their political-diplomatic relations, and called for the cessation of hostilities and the immediate withdrawal of M23 from occupied positions to the cantonment.

Comoros President and AU Chairperson Azali Assoumani stressed the unity of efforts surrounding the situation in the DRC to prevent its spread to other countries in the region.

DRC President Felix Tshisekedi and Rwandan foreign minister Vincent Biruta participated in the summit.

The parties to the event expressed the expectation of holding the second edition of the quadripartite summit in Bujumbura, Burundi. Enditem
