1 dead as summer storm Poly hits Netherlands

THE HAGUE, July 5 (Xinhua) -- A rare but severe summer storm named Poly raged through the Netherlands on Wednesday morning, killing a 51-year-old woman in the city of Haarlem after a tree fell on the car she was in.
A wind gust of up to 146 kilometers per hour was measured in the North Sea coastal town of IJmuiden on Wednesday morning, making Poly the fiercest summer storm ever in the country.
Fallen trees also injured two people in Amsterdam. The high winds there damaged houses and severely disrupted traffic.
Train operators halted services in the west and north of the country and several roads had to be closed. Some 400 flights were canceled at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
The Dutch weather institute KNMI on Wednesday morning issued its highest code red storm warning for the provinces of North Holland, Friesland, Flevoland and the IJsselmeer area. The warning was called off just after 12 noon. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management also advised people not to leave their homes due to the heavy gusts of wind. Enditem
