ISTANBUL, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye aims to carry out 750 archeological excavations by the end of 2023, The Culture and Tourism Ministry announced on Monday.
The ministry has already allocated some 200 million Turkish liras (7.7 million U.S. dollars) for archeological digging as of July, and the amount will exceed 500 million liras at the end of 2023, the official news agency Anadolu reported.
A new digging project will start soon in the town of Gokhoyuk in the central Anatolian province of Konya for further research of the period from the Neolithic Age to the Iron Age, it added.
There will also be excavations in the ancient city of Sobesos, located in the central Anatolian province of Nevsehir, home to the world-famous "fairy chimneys."
Restoration works will continue in the second half of the year in a number of provinces, including the Mediterranean tourism spot Antalya, Mugla and Mersin.
Around 250 foreign experts from more than 20 countries will also participate in the excavations and studies in Türkiye, which is expected to accelerate the progress of projects, including the Neolithic Age research started in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa. Enditem
