MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have rounded up 70 pieces of weapons, including assault rifles, from across north Afghanistan's Balkh province over the past two weeks, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said Thursday.
The collected weapons, which include 54 stock of Kalashnikovs, rocket launchers and a dozen pistols, have been seized from armed men in the provincial capital Mazar-i-Sharif and some districts, the official said, adding that no one would be allowed to carry arms illegally.
In similar operations last week, police recovered five pieces of AKM, one piece of U.S.-made M16 assault rifle, one pistol and thousands of bullet rounds from eastern Wardak province.
The Afghan caretaker government, which has discovered and seized thousands of light and heavy weapons, including battle tanks, since its induction in August 2021, has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone outside security organs. Enditem
