JERUSALEM, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Premier League team Hapoel Tel Aviv beat Spanish second-division side CD Leganes 1-0 in an exhibition match to mark Hapoel's 100th anniversary on Saturday night.

In front of 8,000 fans at Bloomfield Stadium in Israel's coastal city of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Leganes almost broke the deadlock in the 85th minute, but forward Manu Garrido missed the target from a short-range position.

Five minutes later, in the last attack of the match, Hapoel scored the winner from a header by midfielder Ari Cohen after an accurate cross from the right by Liad Ramot.

During halftime, a special ceremony was held on the pitch, honoring dozens of notable players and coaches in the history of the Israeli club.

Over a century, Hapoel clinched 13 Israeli league titles, 16 State Cups, one League Cup, five Super Cups, and the 1967 Asian Champion Club Tournament, today known as the AFC Champions League.

Recently, a group of U.S. businessmen, led by David Mincberg, who has held various managerial roles at NBA and MLS clubs, acquired the Israeli club. The new management appointed Australia's Michael Valkanis as the team's head coach. Enditem
