JAKARTA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of dancers and singers from China's Xinjiang Art Theater Muqam Art Troupe enlivened the stage of Taman Ismail Marzuki, the art center here in Indonesia's capital on Wednesday night.

Various dances, acrobats, and songs are the mainstay of the show, called the Hijriah Festival: Xinjiang Muslim Art Performance, which is co-organized by local media company Republika and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) China Committee in nine Indonesian cities from July 19 to Aug. 10.

The stunning performance by Xinjiang artists was applauded enthusiastically by approximately 1,000 audiences on Wednesday night.

Lu Kang, the Chinese ambassador to Indonesia, was present at the show, and noted that the show demonstrates how more than 13 million Muslims in Xinjiang and other ethnic groups in China benefit from the prosperity and development of their country.

"The prospects for people-to-people and intercultural exchanges are promising in the future, and it is hoped that they would advance friendly relations between China and Indonesia and deepen mutual understanding to a new level," he said.

Early Hanesty, who came with her husband, her 8-month-old kid, and friends, said she liked the performances, which brought back memories of her time studying at Nanjing University in east China's Jiangsu Province.

The show she enjoyed the most was "Play the Tambourine and Sing the Songs," performed by 20 dancers, which featured energetic music and friendly messages from China to Indonesia.

"My kid also really enjoyed it, he danced during the show," she said.

Republika's editor-in-chief, Irfan Junaidi, noted that given how frequently Indonesians encounter Islamic culture at home or in the Middle East, the performances given by the artists from Xinjiang demonstrated the diversity of Islam throughout the world.

The Xinjiang Art Theater Muqam Art Troupe has given performances in more than 130 countries and regions since its founding in 1989, including Britain, France, and Germany. Enditem
