SAN JOSE, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Colombian manager Luis Fernando Suarez has been sacked as head coach of Costa Rica's national team, the Central American country's football federation said on Thursday.
The announcement came less than two weeks after Los Ticos were eliminated from the CONCACAF Gold Cup by Mexico in the quarterfinals.
The federation's executive committee voted 6-5 in favor of Suarez's dismissal, the entity's president Gustavo Araya told reporters.
Suarez, 63, guided Costa Rica to 17 wins, seven draws and 12 losses during his two-year tenure.
Araya did not say when Suarez's successor would be appointed. Among those linked to the job are Argentine Ricardo Gareca and Colombian Jorge Luis Pinto. Enditem
