TOKYO, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Japan's weather agency said on Tuesday that high atmospheric pressure drove up temperatures to over 35 degrees centigrade across the Japanese archipelago.
As of 3:00 p.m. on the day, 161 locations across the country logged temperatures of 35 degrees or higher, constituting an "extremely hot" day, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
Isesaki in Gunma Prefecture registered a reading of 39.5 degrees by 2:20 p.m., while 39.2 degrees was observed in Kiryu in the same prefecture.
Other places also saw sweltering heat including 39 degrees in Hatoyama and 38.7 degrees in the cities of Sano and Kofu, said the weather agency, adding that some parts of central Tokyo saw the mercury rise to 36.6 degrees. Enditem
