RIYADH, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha has renewed his request to the Swedish and Danish governments for measures to address the recurrent insults to the Quran, the Saudi Press Agency reported Tuesday.

Taha made the remarks at the 18th extraordinary session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, which was held virtually on Monday, said the report.

In his speech, Taha said he is disappointed with actions taken by the two Nordic countries in this regard so far, warning the desecration of the Islamic holy book could potentially impact their relations with the OIC member states.

Such acts have undermined the substantial efforts made by the OIC and its member states to promote values of tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding among nations and peoples, he added.

Taha also noted that he had informed the Swedish government of the decision to suspend the status of the special envoy of Sweden to the OIC in protest against recent attacks on the Quran in Stockholm.

Sweden and Denmark have seen a string of protests in recent weeks, in which copies of the Quran were burned or otherwise damaged, sparking outrage from Islamic countries. Enditem
