Chengdu Universiade | China wins table tennis women's and men's doubles titles (updated)

CHENGDU, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's paddlers Qian Tianyi/Zhao Shang beat their compatriots He Zhuojia/Wang Xiaotong 4-3 to grab the women's doubles title, and their male compatriots Xue Fei/Xu Yingbin edged over Hamada Kazuki/Tanigaki Yuma of Japan, also in 4-3 to claim the men's doubles title at the 31st FISU World University Games here on Friday.

In the all-Chinese women's doubles final, Qian/Zhao defeated He/Wang 10-12, 8-11, 11-4, 11-5, 12-10, 9-11 and 11-5, and in the men's doubles final, Xue/Xu beat Kazuki/Yuma 7-11, 11-13, 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6 and 11-7.

Sung Rachel/Wang Amy of the United States and Japan's Kurono Aoi/Motoi Akari shared the women's doubles bronze medal, and China's Zhou Kai/Liu Dingshuo and Turkey's Yigenler Abdullah/Gunduz Ssbrahi̇m shared the men's doubles bronze medal.

After securing the two gold medals, China has already got five out of seven golds in this sport at the Universiade.

"We performed very well, and so did Japan," said Xu Yingbin after the men's doubles final, adding that they won the gold partly because they were lucky.

For Kazuki, he was a little bit disappointed with the result. "Both teams showed a high-level game to the spectators, and we did our best in the whole process," said Kazuki. Enditem
