KIEV -- Ukraine's conflict-related budget expenditures will reach about 1.8 trillion hryvnia (about 49.2 billion U.S. dollars) this year, the government press service reported Friday, citing Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

YANGON -- Thousands of people were evacuated as continuous heavy rain and swollen rivers caused floodings in several townships in southern Myanmar, local authorities said on Saturday.

ISLAMABAD -- The Islamabad police of Pakistan arrested former prime minister Imran Khan on Saturday from his residence in the eastern city of Lahore after a local court sentenced him to three-year imprisonment for hiding his financial assets.

ABUJA -- Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Friday formally notified the country's senate of the recent resolutions of West African leaders on the situation in Niger which culminated in the overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum by the military.

In a letter to the senate, Tinubu, who is the chairman of the authority of heads of state and government of the 15-member Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), said the regional bloc, at an emergency meeting held in Abuja on Sunday, had agreed to impose sanctions on Niger's military leaders involved in the recent coup. RIYADH -- A meeting on the Ukraine crisis began on Saturday in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, local media reported.
