YANGON -- Thousands of people were evacuated as continuous heavy rain and swollen rivers caused floodings in several townships in southern Myanmar, local authorities said on Saturday.

In Mon State's Belin township, some 6,298 people have been evacuated to 25 shelters, Aung Myat Kyaw Sein, spokesperson of the Mon State government, told Xinhua on Saturday. (Myanmar-Floods)

ISLAMABAD -- The Islamabad police of Pakistan arrested former prime minister Imran Khan on Saturday from his residence in the eastern city of Lahore after a local court sentenced him to three-year imprisonment for hiding his financial assets.

The media wing of Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) told Xinhua that the former prime minister was arrested after the court released arrest warrants for Khan.

Earlier in the day, Additional District and Sessions Judge in Islamabad Humayun Dilawar announced a short order to sentence Khan in the Toshakhana case (national gift case) and disqualified him for five years from holding any office. (Pakistan-PTI-Imran Khan)

MANILA -- At least one died after a ferry boat with 95 people on Saturday sank off Corcuera, a town on Simara island in Romblon province in the central Philippines, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

The PCG said the motorboat, with a maximum capacity of 96, carrying 90 passengers and five crew, came from Calatrava town on Tablas island in Romblon and was on its way to Corcuera when the accident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. local time. (Philippines-Boat Sink-Death)

PHNOM PENH -- The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) led by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen won 120 out of 125 parliamentary seats in a recent general election, according to the National Election Committee (NEC) official results released on Saturday.

The Funcinpec Party of Prince Norodom Chakravuth gained the remaining five seats, said the results announced on the state-run National Television of Cambodia.

"Yes, the official results indicate that the CPP won 120 parliamentary seats and the Funcinpec Party earned five seats in the July 23 general election," the NEC's member and spokesman Dim Sovannarom told Xinhua. (Cambodia-Election) Enditem
