PHNOM PENH, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni appointed Hun Manet as the new prime minister on Monday after incumbent Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced he was stepping down.

The monarch signed a royal decree to designate Hun Manet, 45, as the new prime minister for a five-year term following a request from Hun Sen. (Cambodia-PM-Appointment)

BANGKOK -- Thailand's Bhumjaithai Party announced on Monday that it will join a Pheu Thai Party-led alliance to form a new government in a bid to end a political stalemate more than two months after elections.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Pheu Thai Party leader Cholnan Srikaew said both parties have gathered enough support from more than half of the members in the House of Representatives, but they need more votes from other MPs and senators to successfully form a government. MANILA -- A policeman died and two others were critically wounded in a shooting incident inside a police station in the Philippine capital shortly before noon on Monday, local police chief said.

Robert Baesa, police chief of Taguig City in Metro Manila, said that a policeman shot dead his colleague after an argument. Another police officer, who tried to intervene, also got shot and was sent to hospital, he added. (Philippines-Police-Shooting)

ISLAMABAD -- At least four people were killed and around 18 others injured on Monday in a collision between a bus and a dumper truck in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, the rescue service reported.

According to the reports, the accident took place on the Northern Bypass of the city when a passenger bus, on a one-way road, overtook a vehicle and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction, resulting in the casualties. (Pakistan-Traffic Accident)

HANOI -- Landslides and flooding triggered by prolonged heavy rains have killed a total of eight people and injured three others in the northern region of Vietnam from Aug. 2 to 6, according to Vietnam's National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on Monday.

Of the victims, four are in Lai Chau, two in Yen Bai, one in Thai Nguyen and one in Son La province, said the committee, adding that the three injuries are reported in Lai Chau. (Vietnam-Heavy Rains-Deaths) Enditem
