Malaysia's live births rise 13 pct in Q2

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The number of live births in Malaysia rose 13 percent to 105,961 in the second quarter of 2023 from 93,799 a year ago, official data showed Wednesday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that male babies outnumbered females with 54,747 births as compared to 51,214 births for females.

Malay accounted for 68.4 percent (72,500) of the total live births in the second quarter. Live births for other Bumiputera and Chinese made up 12.9 percent (13,694) and 9.1 percent (9,695), respectively. Indian live births accounted for 3.8 percent (4,076) in the quarter. Enditem
