WINDHOEK, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Namibia on Thursday announced an initiative to cut down accommodation fees for locals and residents from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries in a bid to promote its tourism industry.
The Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), a state-owned enterprise mandated to run the tourism facilities within the country, made the announcement in a press briefing, saying the initiative offers up to 50 percent off at select resorts.
"The main focus is to promote domestic and regional tourism, which is part of NWR's mandate," said Nelson Ashipala, NWR's communications manager, adding that the offer will delight and reward those seeking to explore the country.
According to Ashipala, the initiative enables locals and SADC residents to experience the breathtaking beauty of the various areas at prices starting from as low as 295 Namibia dollars (15 U.S. dollars) a night.
"We are thrilled to present this exclusive offer. With this special, we aim to make it easier for tourism local or regional to indulge in their favorite hobbies and create unforgettable memories," he said, adding the offer will last from August to October.
Namibia, like the rest of the world, has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the government since then has been on a tourism revival drive, as tourism is part of the top five sectors that contribute to the country's gross domestic product. Enditem
