JERUSALEM, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) - On the closing day of the 2023 European Athletics U20 Championships at Jerusalem's Givat Ram Stadium on Thursday, Dutch Niels Laros and Latvian Agate Caune each clinched their second gold medals.

A day after her victory in the women's 3,000m, Caune dazzled in the 5,000m, smashing a 22-year-old championship record with a time of 15 minutes and 3.85 seconds.

Laros secured gold in the men's 5,000m race, clocking 14:11.82, following his win in the 1,500m race on Wednesday.

In the 4x100m relays, Germany clinched the women's title with a European U20 lead of 43.82 seconds. Switzerland dominated the men's with 39.87. However, Poland, missing the services of the injured dual gold medalist Marek Zakrzewski, faced disqualification during the final.

France established a European U20 lead of 3:33.31 in the women's 4x400m relay, narrowly ahead of the Netherlands, while the UK emerged victorious in the men's category with 3:06.89, pushing Germany to second place.

Swede Melwin Lycke-Holm, the progeny of 2004 Olympic high jump champion Stefan Holm, clinched the high jump gold with a leap of 2.18m. In contrast, Sara Winberg of Sweden bagged the women's pole vault gold with a 4.25m finish.

Moa Granat of Sweden triumphed in the women's 400m hurdles with 56.58 seconds, and Finland's Jere Haapalainen captured gold in the men's equivalent with 50.02.

The men's 800m was dominated by Czech Republic's Jakub Dudycha, clocking 1:46.76. On the women's side, Switzerland's Audrey Werro led with 2:03.38. Dudycha's victory came after an appeal against an initial disqualification for an alleged push during the race.

In the women's triple jump, Elizabeth Ndudi provided Ireland with its sole gold through a U20 national record of 6.56m. Angelina Topic of Serbia, who had high hopes after her previous high jump win, placed sixth with a 6.42m mark.

In the decathlon, German Amadeus Graber stunned with a world U20 lead of 8,209 points, setting personal bests in nine disciplines. Germany also saw victories from Curly Brown in the women's discus with a 53.93m throw and Fredrick Weigel in the men's 10,000m walk with 41:53.58.

Estonia's Viktor Morozov clinched gold in the triple jump with a 16.45m leap. Adriana Vilagos of Serbia and Spain's Sergio Del Barrio won the women's javelin throw and men's 3,000m steeplechase respectively, with throws of 58.38m and a time of 8:46.81.

Germany topped the medal tally with eight gold, eight silver, and seven bronze. Sweden followed closely, garnering five gold, two silver, and two bronze. Enditem
