ISTANBUL, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- An explosion Monday rocked a shipyard in Türkiye's Istanbul, leaving one person dead and another wounded, Istanbul governor's office said in a statement.

The blast, resulting from gas compression in the waste depot of a ship, took place at around 10:30 a.m. local time (0730 GMT) in the Tuzla district on the Asian side of Istanbul, said the statement.

Firefighters and staff from the government disaster agency were dispatched to the scene, and the injured had received first aid, it added.

Located on the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara, Tuzla is home to Türkiye's largest private shipyards, which offer a full range of vessel repairs and dry-docking services. Enditem
