KAMPALA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) in their joint operation have rescued 19 people taken away by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in DRC's province of Ituri bordering with Uganda.

The rescued, including eight children, nine women, and two men, reported Saturday to the joint base at Bwakadde in Ituri province after the joint forces attacked an ADF position at Tingwe hills, northeast of Erengeti Town of DR Congo, according to a statement issued by Major Bilal Katamba, public information officer of UPDF Mountain Division, on Monday.

The 19 were airlifted by the UPDF and are receiving medical care from the UPDF medical team, reads the statement.

The joint forces are still tracking the rebels, according to the statement. Enditem
